The rollout of high speed broadband is as vital as the electrification of rural Ireland was in the 1940’s and 1950’s. All homes and businesses in Ireland must be provided with the level of access needed to participate in the modern world.
The National Broadband Plan has experienced delay after delay since it was first announced in August 2012. A National Competitiveness Council report has found that regional jobs growth is being stunted by these delays. From the departure of bidders, to delays in the tendering process and other controversies, the people of rural Ireland are no closer to high-speed broadband.
Fianna Fáil are committed to ending the cycle of broken promises and missed deadlines through the delivery of a National Broadband Plan for the 1 million people still waiting for this vital service.
